Coast Guard Channel Launches Weekly Newscast

Scotts Valley, CA—Tam Communications, the digital media company behind the first-ever Internet television network about a branch of the military, the Coast Guard Channel www.coastguard channel.com, today announced their first episode of their weekly newscast "The Coast Guard Channel News with Christi Shaw" is now live. The newscast is the first and only weekly webcast focused solely on news from around the Coast Guard.

The weekly news is being produced by Coast Guard Channel co-founder Susan O’Connor Fraser. “We're planning to bring Viewers a broad range of stories from around the Coast Guard--a bredth of stories equivalent to the Coast Guard's own diverse missions,” notes O’Connor Fraser. “While our programming up to now has been entertaining and informational, it's not necessarily had to be timely. This new venture will mean that Viewers can have a place to come to see stories about what's going on in the Coast Guard now. Not just raw video. Not just printed press releases, local newspaper stories or the big national news stories that the cable nets choose to pick up.”

The newscast will be hosted by local Christi Shaw. This will be Shaw's first anchor job. "We chose Christi because she has a very natural way about her," adds O'Connor Fraser. "It's consistent with who we are...those of us behind the Channel. Plus she brings this honest respect for getting the word out about the Coast Guard and what we're doing that we believe will resonate with our viewers."

In addition to original web-only series and features playing in a “24/7 Video” area, the site also provides an on-line shopping area where viewers can buy Coast Guard-related DVDs and books. Other items will be added to the catalog over the next year. Viewer-submitted content including photos, stories and videos and a forum are featured in other areas of the Channel.
