LOCKPORT, La. - Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Bob Papp places a Coast Guard cutter commissioning pennant in a shadow box during the Coast Guard Sentinel Class Fast Response Cutter Fleet Dedication at the Bollinger Shipyard in Lockport, La. The commissioning pennant will be presented to the commanding officer of each Fast Response Cutter at each ship's commissioning ceremony and flown from the cutter's mast once it is in service.

KNIK, Alaska - Coast Guard sponsored Iditarod musher Ken Anderson exercises members of his sled dog team maintaining their conditioning in preparation for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. The Coast Guard is sponsoring Anderson in the 40th Iditarod as part of an outreach effort to the villages in remote northern Alaska and in tribute to the Coast Guard's historical partnership with the people of Alaska.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Members of the Historic Ship's Company participated in a living history program displaying sailors items from the 1800's at the Mariner's Museum. The HSC is comprised of military, historians and educators throughout the Virginia tidewater region.

BRIGANTINE, N.J. - An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., is shown with a man and his dog at the air station after the pair were rescued from a 12-foot skiff aground in Hammock Cove here. The two were hunting and unable to get their skiff out of the marsh due to low tide.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. —”Nine reserve members of the Coast Guard Redeployment Assistance and Inspection Detachment walk across the jet bridge at the Norfolk International Airport, following a year deployment to Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. The team assisted military personnel with the redeployment of containerized Department of Defense cargo and hazardous materials.

ASTORIA, Ore. - A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Station Quillayute River in La Push, Wash., arrives on scene to assist a Canadian sailing vessel in distress approximately 8 miles southwest of the Quillayute River entrance. The motor lifeboat crew took the vessel in tow in 14-foot swells and 30-knot winds.

TAMPA, Fla. – Lt. Steven Melvin, from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg’s Prevention Department, conducts a routine shipboard inspection aboard the S.S. American Victory Mariners Museum and Memorial, homeported in the Port of Tampa. Coast Guard inspectors need access many narrow and dirty areas of a vessel to ensure a thorough inspection is performed and shipboard hull integrity is intact.

NEW YORK - A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter, from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., departs the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum flight deck in Manhattan, N.Y. The helicopter landed on the flight deck of the Intrepid and was made available for tours to museum visitors as part of a week of children's events held at the Intrepid.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Petty Officer 2nd Class Darren Navarra, an aviation survival technician assigned to Coast Guard Air Station Savannah rescues a person in the water during survival training on the Savannah River. While in an Aircrew position an aviation survival technician or rescue swimmer may find themselves being deployed into a myriad of challenging rescues ranging from hurricanes and cliff rescues, to emergency medical evacuations from ships at sea.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - A CH-146 Griffon helicopter crew of the Royal Canadian Air Force 424 Squadron conduct rescue swimmer hoist training with the crew of a Coast Guard Station Tybee Island 41-foot rescue boat on the Savannah River. The Canadian crew, based in Trenton, Ontario, trained with Air Station Savannah to better support maritime training not available to Canadian forces during the winter months and exchange search-and-rescue techniques.
