The Coast Guard was honored for their heroic performance during the December flooding in the Pacific Northwest by the the National Football League during the Seattle Seahawk's Wild Card Game. Rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Astoria and Air Station Port Angeles participated in a fly over ceremony during the National Anthem and a crowd motivating tribute during the third quarter.

The Coast Guard Cutter Cuttyhunk and its crew return to their homeport at Coast Guard Group Port Angeles. The cutter spent several months at the Coast Guard Yards in Baltimore, Md., receiving six million dollars in upgrades to its navigation, engineering and communications equipment as part of the Mission Effectiveness Project.

Crewmembers from the cutter Vigilant located a grossly overloaded 40-foot sail freighter approximately 33 miles south of Great Inagua, Bahamas, Friday. Once located, the Vigilant crew immediately launched their small boat and began taking the migrants off the dangerous vessel.

Crewmembers from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Chase work to rescue a Green Turtle that was found entangled in a cluster of nets and floats while on routine patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Green Turtles are globally protected and have been listed as an endangered species since 1978.
